Nelson City Council – NMAP

Nelson City Council (NCC) engaged Geographic Business Solutions (GBS) to replace their existing internal web mapping application. Their requirements were to include all existing tools and functions, as well as building a number of customised tools to give the users increased functionality in a stylish, high performing, user friendly interface.

Projects Deliverables

  • Increase the functionality of the replacement consortium internal GIS viewer:
  • Implement data interrogation tools
  • Introduce reporting functionality
  • Increase the search capability to include NCS owner and ratepayer information
  • Enhance map production capabilities
  • Greater control over base map display
  • Enable users to launch Google Street ViewTM from the viewer
  • Improve the look and feel
  • Technical documentation to enable the NCC GIS Team to manage the site independently of GBS
  • Application source code is uploaded to the GBS-Supported Council GIS Consortium code repository

Project Objectives

  • Leverage the Local Government Consortium (LGC) Flex based viewer as a code base for the map viewer
  • Produce a user-friendly interface
  • High performance capacity
  • Adaptability to include new data when it becomes available
  • Utilise ESRI or ESRI-applicable technology
  • Replace the existing map viewer with a new viewer that contains all existing functionality and more

Technical Specifications

The NMap viewer is based on:

  • ESRI ArcGIS Flex Viewer and API version 3.0
  • ArcGIS Server 10.0
